Welcome to the State of California's Green Building Directory!

This directory was developed by the California Department of General Services to promote greater public awareness about state government's commitment to designing, constructing and operating state-owned buildings that are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Information on California's Green Buildings
When you visit the Directory of Green Buildings Web site, you will see a map of California, with flags identifying both existing state-owned facilities, as well as new state construction projects that have achieved, or are currently pursuing, LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
In addition, the map identifies state-owned buildings that are undergoing, or are scheduled to undergo, energy efficiency upgrades; a process also referred to as 'retro-commissioning'.
You can search the buildings database by city or county; by state agency (property owner); by LEED certification type (new construction or existing building), or by energy efficiency project.
California's Green Building Plan
Through Governor Schwarzenegger's Green Building Initiative (Executive Order S-20-04), California is leading by example in reducing the amount of electricity, natural gas, water and other resources that state facilities consume on a daily basis.
The initiative requires the state to reduce grid-based energy usage in its buildings 20 percent by 2015, and, in so doing, reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions. The Department of General Services, as the state's real estate builder, planner, and manager, is spearheading the effort in partnership with the Green Action Team, an inter-agency group chaired by the Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency.
